Delete your LycianWay account

Last updated: April 2026

You have the right to delete your LycianWay account and all associated personal data at any time, under both the UK General Data Protection Regulation (Article 17 — right to erasure) and our own privacy commitment.

How to delete your account

Option 1 — In the LycianWay mobile app

  1. Open the LycianWay app (iOS)
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Scroll to the Account section and tap Delete account
  4. Confirm the deletion

Your account is deleted immediately. You will be signed out and redirected to the login screen.

Option 2 — By email (if you don't use the mobile app)

If you cannot access the app or website, email us from the address on your account:

  • To: hello@lycianway.co.uk
  • Subject: Delete my account
  • Body: Include the email address your LycianWay account is registered to

We'll process the request within 30 calendar days (usually much sooner) and confirm by reply once complete.

What happens when you delete your account

We use a two-step approach — immediate de-identification plus scheduled full erasure of content you can't re-access. This protects other hikers' experience (your past reviews and forum posts stay useful) while meeting your UK-GDPR right to erasure.

Immediate on deletion

De-identified immediately and irreversibly:

  • Your name is replaced with "Deleted User"
  • Your email is replaced with a placeholder (deleted_{id}@deleted.lycianway.com)
  • Your phone number, nationality, bio, profile photo, and all social links are cleared
  • Your password is made unusable and all access tokens are invalidated — you are signed out of every device
  • Your push-notification device token is removed
  • Your emergency contacts are cleared

You can no longer log in or recover the account from this point. The de-identification is effectively permanent — we cannot reverse it.

What content you posted publicly

Displayed under "Deleted User" — not erased by default:

  • Reviews of agencies, guides, and accommodations
  • Trail-feed posts, stories, comments, and trail tags
  • Lost-and-found notices
  • Ask Lycia Live event registrations (displayed as "Deleted User" in admin reports)

Under Article 17 of UK-GDPR (right to erasure), you can request full removal of specific posts or all of your content — not just de-identification. Email hello@lycianway.co.uk with the word "FULL ERASURE" in the subject, and we will remove within 30 days.

What we must retain (legal obligation)

  • Booking invoices — retained for 7 years to meet HMRC tax record-keeping obligations (Companies Act 2006). Personal identifiers are pseudonymised where practical.
  • Stripe payment records — governed by Stripe's own retention policy (typically 7 years for anti-money-laundering compliance under the UK Money Laundering Regulations 2017).
  • Aggregated, non-identifying analytics (e.g. "340 people started Stage 4 in June") — not personal data and not deleted.

Database backups

Our provider runs encrypted automated backups on their standard schedule. Your de-identified data will persist in those backups until they are naturally rotated out; once rotated, the snapshot is permanently unrecoverable. We only ever restore from backup in genuine disaster-recovery scenarios; if we ever did, we would re-apply pending deletion requests before the restored system accepted user traffic.

Can I recover a deleted account?

No. Deletion is immediate and de-identification is irreversible by design. If you created a new account afterward, we treat it as a new account — it does not inherit anything from the deleted one.

Disputes

If we refuse to delete your data (very unusual — usually only if we have a legal obligation to keep it), you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
